For me, the best feature of the newly redesigned ASC website is the digitized archive of American Cinematographer magazine. Starting with the November 1, 1920 issue and ending with the most recent offering, it provides the world’s best resource not just for study of our craft, but for filmmaking in general. There’s nothing else like it. The entire history of the motion picture industry is on display in an amazingly well-preserved package.
Go to www.theasc.com and treat yourself to a stroll through this informative, entertaining treasure. But be careful. There are so many enticing rabbit holes to investigate, you’ll soon find your early evenings turning into late nights. I should know better, but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve shown up to set in a sleep-deprived state because I was searching out some little snip of information.
As you can see below, the style and technology have changed since April 1923, but not much else. And that realization is perhaps the most fascinating thing you’ll come away with once you dig in…

Thank you!
