Just so you’ll know that the many choices we currently have in lens mounts aren’t a recent development, check out these ads from the December 1978 issue of American Cinematographer.
At some point, I might delve into the ridiculous number of lenses now floating around the industry. Don’t get me wrong. Every new one that comes along offers a chance to expand creativity, but I don’t know if I have enough time left in my life to do the catalogue justice!

An Eclair ACL was my first camera. I traveled the country and to the Middle East with it. It was also the perfect B camera to my partner’s NPR.
Been down that road and still have some in the junk box which I will donate to a scrap metal place!
One issue I’m seeing is that there are a lot of lenses being sold but few have enough focal length choices in a set — if I don’t want to mix up different types, it’s hard to work with just an 18, 25, 35, and 50 let’s say. Certainly possible of course but I tend to also need a 21 , 28, and 40 in there.
David – That’s a topic I’m going to address in the not-too-distant.
