THE TGX-16…?

Has anyone ever seen or heard about this camera, let alone shot with one?  The marketing team at the Texas General Cine Corp. must’ve been huffing a mountain of blow when they came up with the claims made in the accompanying ad (lifted from the March 1975 issue of American Cinematographer).

“…a product that will change the course of filmmaking.”

“…advances filmmaking into the 21st century.”

“We expect orders over the next two years to be triple that of our production capability.”

            Seriously…???

The TGX-16 looks suspiciously like a Cinema Products GSMO clone, but company founder Ed DiGiulio was too smart and too nice a man to make such outrageous claims.

As someone who’s vibrantly alive in the twenty-first century, I can say with absolute certainty – that camera never made it here!  It probably didn’t make it to the late ’70’s either, but maybe someone out there can correct me.

            Any takers?
