TESTING ADDENDUM

In Friday’s post regarding the standard over\under exposure test, I stated that its execution was self-explanatory.  Judging from a number of responses I received, I was mistaken.

To correct the record, I’m providing a copy of the article that explains the procedure in detail.  It first appeared in the 11th edition of the American Cinematographer Manual and will give interested parties everything they need to know.

I’m also including a reference chart that shows exactly how to expose the test.

The process really is simple.  If there are any further questions, hit me up in the comments.

  1. Thank you for the information Richard. Just in time… I am getting ready to do a controlled test on a former Panavision owned Panasonic Varicam 35 with a Nikon lens mount. It must have been a camera modified for special effects rental work. Nikon lenses were favored by effects houses… great quality and affordable. I still have my Canon C300 MK II cameras….but the Varicam 35 dual native ISO looks really good after shooting a quick music video shoot for a friend’s band.
