Back in the pre-internet ’80’s when I was still figuring out the cinematography game, I recall employing a professional “bookfinder” to locate this amazing volume. Since it was impossible to find in any bookstore, I discovered his services through an ad in the Sunday New York Times Book Review. I don’t remember the guy’s name, but he had an extraordinary talent for sniffing out the most obscure titles I threw at him. During a time in which every scrap of camera-related information was hard to come by, he was worth every dollar I paid him…and believe me, there were many dollars paid!
The ad, from the June 1966 issue of American Cinematographer, conjures up many happy memories. My copy is probably sitting in storage somewhere; I look forward to liberating it someday soon and once again tripping down that fascinating Arriflex lane.
