I happen to be quite busy at the moment, so rather than miss a post, I’m allowing myself the honor of having ASC Past President and four-time Academy Award winner Charles G. Clarke assume the reigns for the day. His thoughts about who we are and the role we play in the filmmaking process are as relevant today as they were fifty-six years ago in the pages of American Cinematographer magazine.
Enjoy…

Richard, Enjoyed this old article and the advertisements too.
You could have purchased his book Professional Cinematography
for $7.50 ( must include 30 cents sales tax for California Residents )
per the advertisement.
Sounds like he wrote it at the urgings of his students at UCLA.
It’s still available today on AbeBooks for $31.18.
Ken – I have a copy of that book; it remains very interesting. Many of his lessons still apply today.
