I’m always fascinated by what a photographer is thinking when they take a picture. When I look at an image, I instinctively form my own interpretation. In this one, I see a concrete and metal monster with bright red eyes towering over a small man, absorbed in his cellphone and unaware of the world around him, with a tree standing just behind him. Nature feels enclosed, while this concrete and metal monster with glowing red eyes devours the original jungle. Yet the man is distracted by the very technology he invented, using it to look away from everything surrounding him. It feels like a picture of decadence and irony, almost a Magritte vibe, like “The Empire of Light”, where the illumination is on the little man, while the world outside belongs to the majestic protagonist. It pushes your eyes to shift between the full image and the specific subject in the illuminated corner.

Luigi – That’s a very interesting interpretation…
