TRIBUTE TO ONE OF THE GREATS

It’s no exaggeration to say that David E. Williams is the reigning advocate for the cinematography community.  Having distinguished himself over many years through innumerable pieces written for American Cinematographer (and pretty much every other publication on the scene), he has exceeded all previous efforts with the arrival of the book you see above.

A deep-dive into Roizman’s career has long been overdue.  As one of the greats from the Golden Era of the 1970’s, his incredible career is finally getting the justice it deserves.  The French Connection, The Exorcist, The Taking of Pelham One Two Three, Three Days of the Condor, Straight Time, True Confessions, Absence of Malice, Tootsie, Wyatt Earp…  Williams deconstructs each of these Roizman classics with an expert’s perspective, much of it spoken through the voice of the man himself.

Beautifully designed and filled with behind-the-scenes photographs (many never published before), this unique volume belongs on everyone’s shelf.

I knew Roizman well and for as great a man as he was, he was also a tough taskmaster.  That said, I’m certain he would’ve been extremely pleased with what Williams has delivered.

            You will be too!
