MOON MATTERS

The ASC Clubhouse continually amazes me.  Every time you think there’s no more history to be drawn from its hallowed walls, someone digs deeper and unearths another amazing treasure.

And when I say ‘unearths,’ I’m not kidding.  The signers of the letters featured below were the first humans to set foot on the moon in July 1969.  That they were addressed to IATSE Local 644 in New York City – yet somehow landed at the corner of Franklin and Orange in Hollywood – makes the route they traveled seem even more intriguing.

You’ll get a kick out of how polite the astronauts’ language is in response to the offer of membership in that forerunner of today’s Local 600.  But keep in mind that Armstrong, Aldrin and their shipmate Michael Collins cheerfully accepted Honorary Membership in the ASC after their return from space.  And as the last man standing of that incredible trio, Aldrin remains one of the most revered names on our roster!
