  1. When I was a teenager, one of my favorite things was to go to the Golden Egg in Varese, my hometown. My friends and I were getting a sandwich and then we were going to eat it on the steps of a shop across the sandwich place. It was a ritual; the sandwich had to be eaten immediately and the best was to savor it while looking at the place that just made it for you. The Golden Egg was historical, in Varese. It was a landmark, a staple, a place that should never close.
I think it’s interesting that the first picture out of social media is about something that look frozen in the past; a building of another time and a man in the act of eating something that was invented around the end of the 15th century.
When I see pictures like this I can’t help but thinking of future generations, living in futuristic cities, looking at images like this one, probably on a history book, just like I was watching pictures of a century ago during my school years.
I was born when computers were creeping in, cellphone didn’t exist and fridges were only for wealthy people. Now there are young men that have known nothing but touchscreen smartphones.
I taught a workshop of camera few years back; the cameras were Panasonic HVXs. Every student tried to touch the foldable screen of the camera.
Never laughed so hard; good ol’ times, just like eating a donut outside the donut house, or a sandwich across the Golden Egg.

  2. Greg – No, that wasn’t me, but it has been me many times in the past…and not always because of an early crew call!

  3. Isn’t our job, as artists, to deliver a message that resonates with us, hoping the audience will react as well?
This one brought me to my teenage years and that’s what I love about photography; nothing triggers your emotions more than a visual stimulus.
